Garibaldi statue in Rome damaged by lightning

Part of base of equestrian statue collapses

(ANSA) - Rome, September 7 - The famous equestrian statue of Italian unification hero Giuseppe Garibaldi on Rome's Gianicolo hill was damaged by a lightning bolt overnight.
    Local police were the first to notice that a lightning strike had caused parts of the base of the statue to collapse.
