A top Italian psychiatrist, Claudio Mencacci, on Friday praised Pope Francis for admitting that he did therapy with an analyst when he as younger. The pope revealed that he consulted a Jewish psychoanalyst for six months when he was aged 42 and lived in Argentina in comments in a book soon to be released in France.
"There's no need to be ashamed to undergo a course of psychotherapy if you have a problem and this is the pope's extraordinary message to humankind," said Mencacci, the director of the neuroscience department of Milan's Fatebenefratelli hospital.
