A 70-year-old man and his wife
were charged with aggravated fraud on Monday for pretending to
be separated in order to claim a 700-euro monthly welfare check
for over a decade.
The monthly check is to support ex-spouses without without
family income.
Investigators say the wife - a former retirement benefits
office employee at INPS social security agency - came up with
the scheme.
Police seized 110,000 euros from the husband.
