Pope Francis on Friday visited the families of seven former priests who left the cloth in order to marry. He visited them in a flat in the outlying eastern Rome district of Ponte di Nona in what will be his last Friday of Mercy under his special Jubilee Year of Mercy. He did so to reach out to people who made a choice that was often not approved of by their families and fellow clergy, the Vatican press office said.
Four of the former priests are from Rome, one is from Sicily, one from Madrid, and one from Latin America.
Past Fridays of Mercy visits have included ones with rescued sex trafficking victims, elderly ailing priests, and drug addicts in rehab.
