Tanker specialist D'Amico International Shipping S.A. is launching three new eco-friendly and fuel-efficient vessels built at Hyundai Vinashin Shipyard in Vietnam.
The three new vessels cost a total of $104 million (approximately 95.5 million euros).
A first vessel named Cielo di Salerno (Salerno Sky, in Italian) was delivered October 21, bringing the D'Amico fleet to 51 ships. It is 184 metres long, 27.4 metres wide, and has deadweight tonnage (DWT) of 39,000 tonnes.
The High Wind is expected to be delivered by mid-November, while the High Challenge will be operative by the beginning of 2017. Both medium-range ships, they have capacity of 50,000 DWT and measure 183 metres by 32.20 metres.
All three vessels are built to reduce fuel consumption and emissions, and are designed to carry up to nine different types of cargo at the same time. One of them has already been leased by an oil major for a period of three years, while the other two will be used on the spot market.
"We're adding three new highly valuable assets to our fleet, which is among the youngest and most innovative on the international scenario," commented D'Amico President Paolo d'Amico.
