Pope Francis will celebrate vespers in a Rome church Wednesday with the head of the Anglican Church, Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, marking the 50th anniversary of the start of official dialogue with the Catholic Church.
The service in San Gregorio al Celio recalls the historic move sanctioned by the Second Vatican Council and preceded by a meeting between Pope Paul VI and then Archbishop of Canterbury Michael Ramsey in January 1966.
The pope will deliver a homily and a joint statement will be signed.
