Former Inter Milan owner
Massimo Moratti said Friday that the new controlling
stakeholder, Chinese electronic retailing giant Suning, has
asked him to return as chairman of the Serie A giants.
However, Moratti added he was not sure about whether to
take up the offer.
Moratti ceded control of Inter when he sold a 70% stake
to Indonesian businessman Erick Thohir, the current chairman, in
2013.
He is no longer a minority shareholder after Suning's
takeover this year.
"Suning has asked me to return as Inter chairman,"
Moratti told Premium Sport.
"It would be an honour but I don't know what I'd answer.
"The fans are nostalgic. Erick Thohir tried to make buys
but had trouble managing a toy that was bigger than expected.
"I feel safe with the Chinese. They have a great desire
to do well".
Inter won five Serie A titles, four Italian Cups, the 2010
Champions League and Club World Cup and the 1998 UEFA Cup during
Moratti's 18 years in charge.
He is the son of oilman Angelo Moratti, who bankrolled
the 'Great Inter' side that won two European Cups in the 1960s,
and four scudetti between 1963 and 1971.
