(by Nicoletta Castagni). Art exhibitions opening across Italy at the weekend feature masterpieces by American realist painter Edward Hopper, Spanish surrealist painter Salvador Dali', and a collection of 40 works by prominent names in the contemporary art world at a new show at Rome's Chiostro del Bramante titled 'Love'.
ROME - The various faces of love are assembled in 40 works from some of the most prominent names in the international contemporary art scene in the exhibition titled 'Love', which opens September 29 and runs through February 19 at Chiostro del Bramante.
The exhibition includes works by, among others: Andy Warhol, Tom Wesselmann, Gilbert & George, Robert Indiana, Vanessa Beecroft, Francesco Clemente, and Marc Quinn.
The first work the visitor encounters is the iconic 1970 installation 'Love' by American pop artist Robert Indiana.
There's also an experiential installation by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama called the 'Infinity Room', which has such limited capacity that it can be visited for just 30 seconds at the end of the exhibition.
PISA - At the Palazzo Blu, more than 150 works by the Spanish surrealist painter Salvador Dalí go on display from October 1 through February 5 in the show titled 'Dalí: The Dream of the Classic". The show aims to highlight the importance of Italy, the Renaissance, and in particular Michelangelo, in Dalì's work, through a series of oil paintings, four of which have never before been publicly displayed, from Italian and Spanish collections.
ROME - The work of early 20th-century American realist painter Edward Hopper will be on show in Rome from October 1 to February 12 at the exhibition space of the Vittoriano Museum Complex, with 60 masterpieces completed between 1902 and 1960 on loan from New York's Whitney Museum. The exhibition aims to put Hopper's work into the context of the influence the painter had on the film world, in particular that of Hitchcock, Antonioni and Dario Argento. The show is divided into six sections and includes, among others, the paintings 'Night Shadows', 'Evening Wind', 'Study for Gas', 'Study for Girlie Show', and 'Study for Summertime'.
