Italy, U.S. together to unite Tripoli and Tobruk

(ANSA) - Bratislava, September 2 - Italy has urged "the utmost collaboration" from Libya amid rising migrant flows, Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni said on the sidelines of an EU meeting in Bratislava Friday. Gentiloni also announced that Italy and the US are working together on a diplomatic initiative to be realised in mid-month in New York with the aim of "building a bridge" between Premier Fayez al-Serraj and the factions loyal to General Khalifa Haftar in Tobruk. Italy has been rescuing increasing numbers of migrants and refugees off Libya, which is torn between opposing factions as well as by Islamic State which was recently driven from the coastal city of Sirte.
