The anti-establishment 5-Star
Movement (M5S) would win a general election by an ample margin
if a runoff vote between single parties were held today,
according to a weekly survey by Ixè pollsters for RAI public
broadcaster.
The M5S would win by 54% against 46% for Premier Matteo
Renzi's Democratic Party (PD).
If the runoff were between parties and coalitions, the M5S
allied with the center-right would win by 60% (against 40% for
the PD on its own), while the PD would beat a center-right
coalition sans M5S by 55% to 45%.
The PD remains the leading party in Italy with 31.4% of the
vote (+0.2% over last week), the M5S followed with 28.7%
(-0.2%), the rightwing anti-immigrant Northern League at 14.4%
(+0.3%), and Silvio Berlusconi's center-right Forza Italia at
10.1% (-0.3%).
