An Italian man was found dead
Friday on the Colle di Nana mountain pass between Val d'Ayas and
Valtournenche in the northwestern Aosta Valley region.
He was identified as 55-year-old Ugo Favre from the Alpine
town of Verrès.
An excursionist alerted authorities after noticing the
body.
Officials said Favre likely fell to his death while looking
for wormwood in an impervious tract of the pass, which is at
elevation of 2,775 meters.
Wormwood, also known as genepì in the Aosta Valley and in
the adjoining French region of Savoy, is an aromatic plant used
to make a local herbal liqueur.
