Rosa D'Amelio, president of the Campania regional assembly, said that the council will invest in the Giffoni Film Festival, at the close of its 46th edition on Sunday. "(The festival) has become an extraordinary resource, showing that even an inland area can become well known worldwide," D'Amelio said, referring to the festival's location in the small town of Giffoni Valle Piana, in the province of Salerno.
"Giffoni is synonymous worldwide with children's cinema," she said, adding that earnings from the festival support the local population for the entire year.
D'Amelio said that 20 million euros were invested in the Giffoni Film Festival's Multimedia Valley in 2010 and another 20 million euros "should be coming in" following a period of stagnation.
