Celebrity actor Alessandro Preziosi
will be debuting Tuesday as Mercutio in Shakespeare's Romeo and
Juliet at the 68th edition of the Verona summer theater
festival, Estate Teatrale Veronese.
The show - directed by Andrea Baracco and produced by
Preziosi together with Tommaso Mattei and Aldo Allegrini - runs
through July 23.
A winter tour kicks off in Fano, in Umbria, in February
with stops in Florence and Rome.
Preziosi said Baracco's version of Romeo and Juliet, staged
on the 400th anniversary of the Bard's death, is inspired "more
by concept than tradition.
The popular actor will soon star as architect Filippo
Brunelleschi in a television show also featuring Dustin Hoffman
on the life of the Medicis.
The show will air RAI public broadcaster's Channel 1.
