A unique selection of wines, with almost every Italian region represented along with main designations from France, compose the catalogue of the spring sale of fine and rare wines organized by Aste Bolaffi and Slow Food Editore in Turin, May 25-26.
The sale includes wines from Piedmont - with a fine assortment of Gaja Barbaresco, Monfortino Giacomo Conterno, Barolo Mascarello and Vietti - Veneto, with Amarone Dal Forno and Quintarelli, and Tuscany, with bottles of Sassicaia, including Sassicaia 1968 and 1985, the label that every wine enthusiast hopes to have in their collection. As for French wines, the Bordeaux selection is one of the most important lots in the sale, consisting of 12 bottles of Château Lafite Rothschild 2010. Among the Bourgogne, there is a selection of all the "crus" from the most celebrated maison, Domaine de la Romanée Conti 1990.
"Talking about wine auctions may seem like an academic exercise. It may even sound rather snobby and trendy, but not if you refer to Bolaffi," said Carlo Petrini, the creator and founder of Slow Food. "Bolaffi is the first (auction house) in Italy to catalogue the most important bottles of wine and it is also the creator of a wine guide with Luigi Veronelli. "It has become a cultural exercise to spread the knowledge of the distinguished Italian wine heritage, which is still not given proper recognition in other international auctions. "It's clear that purchasing (such wines) is not possible for everyone, but through catalogues and websites, they can still discover the bottles that help to create the history of wine-making worldwide".
