Claudio Ranieri's Leicester City
were crowned English champions on Monday, when second-placed
Tottenham Hotspurs' 2-2 draw at Chelsea left them with an
unassailable seven point lead with two Premier League games to
go.
It will go down as one of the greatest feats of modern
football.
Leicester, with a squad assembled at a fraction of the
cost of those of English big guns like Chelsea, Manchester
United and Manchester City, were expected to struggle to stave
off relegation at the start of the season.
Indeed, bookmakers are having to make big payouts after
offering odds of 5,000-1 on the side from the English Midlands
winning their first ever league crown.
It is also a personal triumph for Ranieri who, despite
having coached a series of top clubs, had never previously won a
top-flight championship.
"I always thought that sooner or later I'd win a league
title," Ranieri told Rai show Il Processo del Lunedì.
