The Vatican Bank, Istituto
per le Opere di Religione (IOR), has closed some 4,800 accounts
after completing a major revision, the Vatican's Financial
Information Authority (AIF) said in its 2015 report Thursday.
The AIF said those accounts were "no longer in compliance
with the Vatican regulatory framework" based on the nationality
or residency of the owner or the use of the funds.
The operation was completed in October, the AIF said.
The IOR, AIF and other Vatican financial bodies are making
a concerted effort to get the Holy See onto the international
white list of countries with impeccable anti-money-laundering
credentials.
