The Lower House on Wednesday voted
to eject Forza Italia MP Giancarlo Galan after he plea-bargained
a definitive two-year-10-month sentence for corruption on the
Venice MOSE flood-barrier project.
The vote was carried with 388 votes in favour, 40 against
and 7 abstentions.
Former Veneto regional governor and two-time minister Galan
argued he was forced into the plea bargain by being jailed in
the case.
He was arrested in June 2014 along with then Venice Mayor
Giorgio Orsoni and 33 others in relation to a probe into
alleged corruption in contracts for MOSE.
