Vibo Valentia prosecutors on Monday ordered the preventative seizure of the southbound part of Fremisi-San Rocco tunnel in the A3 motorway connecting the southern cities of Salerno and Reggio Calabria.
As a result the section of the highway between Mileto and Serre will be closed. The move was taken after the appointment of five experts to clarify the causes of two accidents in which five people died. The experts reportedly linked the accidents to "serious structural defects" regarding the asphalt, lighting and protection barriers.
