Prosecutors are investigating
reports of alleged maltreatment suffered by a teenage Muslim
girl at the hands of her family, it emerged on Monday.
The girl, aged between 14 and 15 and of north African
origin, reportedly told a teacher at her high school in Bologna
that she had been hit with blunt objects by her parents and two
elder brothers, slapped and had salt rubbed into her eyes.
The alleged abuse was punishment for behaviour which her
family considered to be too 'western', she said.
Specifically, they were allegedly unhappy that she hung out
with Italian friends.
