Former premier Silvio
Berlusconi said Friday that ex-civil protection chief Guido
Bertolaso was the best candidate to run Rome.
Speaking after Bertolaso accepted a centre-right offer to
stand in the June mayoral elections, Berlusconi praised his "can
do" record as civil protection chief.
In particular, he lauded his handling of "epochal events"
such as the Campania waste crisis, the aftermath of the 2009
Abruzzo earthquake and the decision to move the 2009 Group of
Eight meeting from Sardinia to Abruzzo capital L'Aquila.
