Finance police on Monday seized
real estate worth 2.2 million euros from the former
superintendent of the Palace of Venaria, a former royal
residence and UNESCO World Heritage site.
Francesco Pernice in 2014 plea-bargained a year and 11
months in prison for abuse of office, bid-rigging, and
corruption in connection with contracts to renovate the Palace
of Venaria and other historic residences in the northern
Piedmont region.
Co-defendant Ezio Enrietti, a builder and a Socialist who
served as governor of Piedmont in 1980-1983, pled a year and six
months in the same case.
The assets were seized on orders of the Piedmont Audit
Court "to ensure compensation to the public administrations that
were the damaged parties" in the case, finance police said.
