The number of first-time asylum applicants registered in Italy in the third quarter of 2015 was 28,400, a 91% increase on the number for the second quarter, Eurostat said on Thursday. The EU's statistics office said that this was 7% of the total 410,000 requests in the union as a whole in that period - double the number for the April-June period.
