Thousands of people holding
lit candles filled St. Mark's Square on Wednesday evening in
memory of Venice-born Valeria Solesin, who was murdered in one
of Friday's Islamic terror attacks in Paris.
City government also adhered to the silent commemoration,
which Valeria's friends organized on social media.
The 28-year-old Sorbonne sociology doctoral student was at
a concert at the popular Bataclan club when gunmen wielding
AK-47s opened fire on the crowd of some 1,500 people, killing 89
in an attack that lasted 20 minutes.
Also on Wednesday, Premier Matteo Renzi said Italy will
commemorate its fallen countrywoman with a scholarship in her
name and by dedicating "something having to do with university
research" to her.
"Valeria Solesin will remain in our hearts," Renzi said.
