(see related) Rome, November 12 - The number of mixed
marriages and marriages contracted between foreigners in Italy
fell in 2014 in line with an overall drop in the number of
marriages contracted, Istat said Thursday.
Roughly 24,000 couples where at least one partner was
non-Italian tied the knot last year, down 1,850 on 2013.
These marriages accounted for 12.8% of all marriages
celebrated, Istat said.
In mixed marriages it was typically the wife who is foreign
and in 50% of cases she was from Eastern Europe, the statistics
agency added.
The number of de facto unions continues to rise in Italy,
exceeding one million in the period 2013-2014 Istat said.
Some 25% of children born in 2014 had unmarried parents.
