An Italian public relations
expert at the centre of a Vatican document-leaking scandal
protested her innocence on Tuesday, saying she had never given
away sensitive documents to anyone.
Francesca Immacolata Chaouqui was detained and interrogated
by Vatican authorities over the weekend following an
investigation into leaked documents to the writers of upcoming
books on the Vatican.
"I did not betray the pope," Chaouqui wrote on Facebook,
denying that she was the source of the leaks. "I never gave
papers to anyone," she said.
She said the truth would "emerge soon" and that she had
faith in investigators managing the case.
