Bank of Italy Governor Ignazio Visco said Wednesday that a final decision on whether to set up a bad bank to relieve Italian lenders of a huge burden of non-performing loans will be made within weeks. He added that the Italian State will have a low stake in the bad bank or no stake at all.
Visco added Wednesday that Italy's growth for 2015 may exceed expectations, with a GDP rise of up to 1%.
He added that the risk of losing money for Italian bank account holders with over 100,000 euros in their accounts remained "low" even with the European Union's new bail-in regulations.
