State-controlled ENEL electric utility president Patrizia Grieco said Tuesday that Premier Matteo Renzi's notion of possibly including public broadcaster RAI license fees on consumers' electric bills is problematic. "It's difficult technically because of our billing systems, and probably also from a juridical standpoint," she said. "I can't say whether these problems can be solved or not," she added.
"Assoelettrica (electricity companies association) has said on behalf of all the operators that (including) RAI fees on utilities bills appears to be very difficult to carry out".
The industry and economy ministries are at work on Renzi's proposal, which would be included in the next budget bill.
Ministry sources said the RAI license fee would only be included on the electricity bill for primary residences and not on those for second and third homes.
Renzi has touted the idea of including the RAI fee on utilities bills in a bid to cut down on evasion.
In Italy, everyone with a TV is supposed to pay a yearly fee to the public broadcaster.
