(ANSA) Rome, September 3 - A wave of attacks in and around
Baghdad killed at least 11 civilians and wounded 28 Thursday,
officials said.
The attacks targeted five commercial areas with bombs.
Police officials said the deadliest bombing killed three
shoppers and wounded 10 in the town of Tarmiyah, 50 kilometers
(30 miles) north of Baghdad.
They added that another four attacks in Baghdad killed eight
civilians and wounded 18 in total.
No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attacks.
However, the Islamic State militant group is often behind
assaults on security forces and public areas as it seeks to
challenge Iraq's Shiite-led government amid intensifying
battles in northern and western Iraq.
