Some 7,000 teachers will be
moving from the south to the north this year, the same as last
year, but this time they are getting steady jobs, Education
Minister Stefania Giannini said in a press conference Wednesday.
Last year they were working as supply teachers, she said.
The second phase of teacher hirings will mean a "major"
transfer of jobs from south to north, Giannini stressed.
"Most of the transfers will be from Sicily to the north,
above all Lombardy," she said.
Many teachers would also leave Campania for the north and
also Lazio, "especially to Rome and the surrounding area," she
said.
A second round of 55,000 teacher hires will be made by
mid-November, Giannini said.
That will mean about seven more teachers per school, she
said.
The new hires will come on top of 100,000 in the first
round of hirings.
