The sound of Chinese is often to be heard in the most prestigious wine cellars of Italy these days due to the presence of a group of Chinese sommeliers and vintners on an educational visit aimed at learning the secrets of Italian wine.
This is a project promoted and organised by the Committee of Italy Grand Crus (the 100 best producers on the peninsula), thanks to the support of the Expo Italy pavilion and the ICE Italian Trade Agency. The project aims to train Chinese professionals who themselves become trainers of professionals at home.
For Italian wine to conquer the most important world market, where Italy has today only 7% compared to 50% garnered by France, a note by the Committee says, "training and explaining the characteristics of Italian wine, unique in the world for the price quality relationship and richness of variety, are essential".
Also important is the collaboration started by the Provincial Committees created by the Chinese government in every area of the country, to accompany the increase in use of wine with education programmes for people working in the sector to prevent unwanted side effects from the continuous increase.
