Volunteers from an NGO dedicated
to keeping retired people active and working at museums and
cultural associations throughout the country donned black
armbands Monday to honour Khaled al-Asaad, the veteran Palmyra
archeologist beheaded by Islamic State (ISIS) militants last
week.
"The barbaric killing of al-Asaad is a tragedy for his
country - Syria - but also a terrorist act carried out against
world culture," said Association for Active Ageing (AUSER)
president Enzo Costa.
