Ongoing disruptions and delays
were reported at Rome's Fiumicino airport on Thursday after a
forest fire temporarily blocked its runways on Wednesday.
Delays of between one and three hours were registered on
services to Milan's Linate airport, Marseilles, Cagliari,
Amsterdam, Naples, Bologna and Stuttgart.
In one case, a flight operated by Spanish low-cost airline
Vueling was delayed from its scheduled departure time of 9.40pm
on Wednesday to 10am.
Wednesday's fire affected two separate areas of pine forest
near the international airport, with strong winds fanning the
flames.
The incident came as the airport was finally recovering
from damages caused by a fire in Terminal 3 in early May that
caused major disruption.
The prosecutor's office in the nearby port city of
Civitavecchia has opened an investigation into Wednesday's
blaze.
