Lavazza has submitted a binding
offer to buy coffee rival Carte Noire, the French market leader
with a 20% share of the domestic retail market.
Financial terms were not disclosed and the deal remains
subject to approval by European authorities as well as French
regulators.
Under the terms of the deal Lavazza would acquire Carte
Noire's coffee-making plant in Laverune in the
Languedoc-Roussillon region.
Lavazza operates in 90 countries around the world and has a
45% share of the Italian retail market.
