French border police
continued to send migrants who had crossed into France from
Ventimiglia in Italy's northwestern Liguria region back again on
Thursday, one day after some 170 people were returned.
Roughly 15 migrants were sent back from the frontier post
in the early hours of Thursday morning.
French police have also stepped up controls at the
international rail stations of Nice and Cannes, sources said.
As well, a high-speed train travelling from Italy to Paris
was stopped at the border station of Garavan-Mentone to allow
police to search for migrants.
A group of around 100 migrants have been camped out on
rocks by the sea on the Italian side of the border for six days
demanding to be allowed into France.
