Italian heartthrob actor Raoul Bova was indicted Wednesday on charges of tax evasion along with his sister Daniela and his ex-wife and agent Chiara Giordano. The trial is set to start on September 21 next year. Bova, 43, mainly known to international audiences for Under The Tuscan Sun (2003), denies the charges.
The three defendants are accused of filing false tax statements by paying a lower VAT rate than was due by shifting costs to the company that manages Bova's image, between 2006 and 2010. Bova's defence lawyer said he was "stunned" by the preliminary hearings judge's decision to send the case to trial, saying rulings by another court and the high Court of Cassation had been ignored.
"Now we'll do the trial and show there is no crime," he said.
