Outspoken 5-Star Movement (M5S)
leader Beppe Grillo toned down a controversial Twitter posting
Wednesday after outrage over his prediction that Rome may be
"swamped in rats, trash and illegal immigrants".
Left Ecology Freedom party chief Nichi Vendola spearheaded
an angry response, saying that "putting rats and illegal
immigrants on the same level means lending words to barbarism".
Later Wednesday former comic Grillo published a new
version telling mayor of Rome Ignazio Marino to resign "before
Rome is swamped by rats, trash and illegal-immigrant camps run
by the mafia".
