An Italian was among the victims
of Tuesday's rail crash outside Philadelphia, Italian consular
sources in the United States said Thursday.
Giuseppe Piras, 41, was one of seven people to lose their
life when their Amtrak passenger train travelling between
Washington, DC, and New York derailed.
Piras, an olive oil and wine salesman from Ittiri near
Sassari in the island region of Sardinia, was in the US on
business.
Fellow townspeople say he had been due to fly from
Washington to New York but missed his flight and so took the
train instead.
Piras was among the founders of the Sardinia Oil
cooperative.
