The European Central Bank (ECB) as
of April 24 purchased 85 billion euros' worth of public paper as
part of its quantitative easing (QE) program to stimulate
eurozone growth, the central bank made known Monday.
The purchasing program included 72.6 billion euros in
covered bonds and 5.75 billion euros in asset-backed securities
(ABS), the ECB said.
ECB President Mario Draghi's massive bond-buying program -
which is designed to push down interest rates and boost credit
- was launched January 22 and involves monthly bond purchases
from across the eurozone.
