Zdenek Zeman on Tuesday quit
as Cagliari coach after their fourth defeat in a row, 3-0 at
home to Napoli, left them second last in Serie A on 21 points,
two behind Cesena and nine adrift of Atalanta.
Youth team coach Vittorio Pusceddu may be appointed to
oversee the last seven games of the season, when Cagliari face a
very stiff challenge to avoid the drop, club sources said.
Zeman, who started the season with Cagliari only to be
replaced for a short time by Gianfranco Zola, was said to have
been disappointed by the team's form but also hurt by an attempt
by ultras to attack players at training camp on Friday in what
he called a "shocking" incident.
The Czech-Italian coach, 67, is one of the most experienced
in Italian soccer with spells at Foggia, Lecce, Pescara, Lazio
and Roma.
