A new app for women in danger
developed by Federfarma pharmacists' association has been
launched in Naples, sources said Friday.
The app is designed to allow users to quickly report
violence against women or to learn more about how to seek
protection.
It features an image of a woman with a bruised face and a
hand covering her mouth, and it enables a rapid connection to
emergency numbers 112 and 1522, a 24-hour free number set up in
2006 by the Italian Equal Opportunities Department.
It also allows users to locate the nearest anti-violence
centre and consult laws on murder, stalking, and rape.
To make it as accessible as possible the app comes in 11
languages including Arabic, Chinese, Romanian, Slovenian, and
Ukrainian.
The pilot project is intended for national roll-out across
all the pharmacies in Italy, Federfarma said.
In Italy, as many as 6.7 million women aged 16-70 - or
31.9% of the female population - report being subjected to
physical or sexual violence at least once in their lives.
