Italy's Agriculture Minister Maurizio Martina presented the Expo 2015 Wine Pavilion at the 49th edition of Verona's Vinitaly wine conference at the weekend, calling the pavilion which will feature at the May-October world's fair in Milan "a means of discovery through the five senses".
Martina said the nearly 2,000-square-metre Wine Pavilion will engage the visitors in "an emotional journey".
"We want to represent the wealth and excellence of our wine heritage at its best," Martina said of the pavilion, which will be housed within the larger Italian Pavilion.
The pavilion was designed by architect Italo Rota, and will showcase Italy's wine history from its beginnings when Italy was named "Enotria," or "country of wine," 2,500 years ago, to the projection of the winery of the future, highlighting Italy's unique heritage of 544 vine varieties.
The pavilion will offer a "Wine Library" with 1,400 types of Italian wines and distillates for sampling.
