Napoli has 'adopted' a children's
soccer team in the Afghan city of Herat, the team announced
Wednesday.
President Aurelio De Laurentiis championed the idea, and
Italian peacekeepers stationed in Herat delivered team jerseys
along with other memorabilia to the children.
"Soccer and Napoli can provide a bit of joy and confidence
to Italian soldiers in Afghanistan and to its people, who are in
search for peace," De Laurentiis said in a message.
Italy heads up a NATO-led peacekeeping force made up of
Albanian, American, Lithuanian, Slovenian, Spanish, and
Ukrainian troops.
