Ancelotti on Thursday denied using a favourite phrase of Benito
Mussolini and his Fascists when he defended ex-AC Milan and
Italy boss Arrigo Sacchi from racism claims Wednesday.
Sacchi faced a storm of criticism from Italy and abroad for
saying there were too many blacks in Italian youth football.
Ancelotti said the phrase "many enemies, much honour," was
first used by Julius Caesar in his Gallic campaigns.
"Those who criticise me don't know me," Ancelotti told ANSA,
"and perhaps they don't know history either.
"My message of solidarity to Sacchi had nothing to do with
either politics or Fascism," said the former manager of Juventus
and AC Milan.
Sacchi said his remarks were misconstrued and he had only
meant to say there were too many foreign youth players.
But he acknowledged saying "too many blacks" and said he
was sorry.
