(ANSA) Rome, December 19 - Paolo Virzi's film The Human
Capital was eliminated from the running for the Academy Awards
Friday after it failed to make the nine-movie short-list for
best foreign film, officials said.
Virzi's film won the David di Donatello award this year for
best film, and actress Valeria Bruni Tedeschi received an award
at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York as best actress in the
'World Narrative' category.
The films on the short list for the Jan. 15 nomination are
"Wild Tales" by Argentinian Damian Szifron, "Tangerines" by
Estonian Zaza Urushadze, "Corn Island" by Georgian George
Ovashvili, "Timbuktu" by Mauritanian Abderrahmane Sissako,
"Accused" by HOlland's Paula van der Oest, "Ida" by Poland's
Pawel Pawlikowski, "Leviathan" by Russian Andrey Zvyagintsev,
"Force Majeure" by Swedish director Ruben Ostlund and "The
Liberator" by Venezuelan Alberto Arvelo.
The Academy Award winners will be announced on February 22.
