Rome Mayor Iganzio Marino said
Tuesday that Italy's culture ministry will likely contribute one
million euros to the city's cinema foundation for its major
festival.
Marino spoke after meeting Culture Minister Dario
Franceschini.
Rome's city government is in turmoil amid a police probe
into a multimillion euro mafia scandal involving numerous
departments and a former mayor.
Franceschini said the Rome event would not conflict with
the international Venice film festival because it will no
involve a competition itself.
He added that the event will be a "revival" and headed by
the Istituto Luce Cinecittà.
