Drone-powered aerial videos of construction at the Milan Expo 2015 site will be thrown up regularly on the Web, Expo social media channels, and an Expo promotional centre in downtown Milan, thanks to an agreement signed this week with unmanned aircraft specialist Skyrobotic and the telecommunications service company Fidogroup.
The drone-recorded video images are part of the Belvedere in Citta' (Lookout in the City) project being carried out by Telecom Italia and Expo 2015.
Milan Expo 2015 opens its gates May 1 and runs to October 31 of next year. The food-themed world fair will focus on nutrition, food security, sustainable practices and celebrating the best of global culinary cultures.
The video agreement foresees that the images of the 100-hectare area, taken by an unmanned multicopter supplied by Skyrobotic, will be transmitted once a week to Expo Gate, a temporary construction near the Sforzesco Castle in downtown Milan to promote Expo and host related events. The weekly infusion of images will also be uploaded to the Web site and social media channels of Expo 2015 and Telecom Italia, thanks to integrated technologies provided by Fidogroup.
The agreement, which allows anyone to follow the final phases of Expo construction, was presented at an opening ceremony for a multi-functional space, called Tim4Expo at the Triennale Museum for design, contemporary art and architecture.
Tim4Expo exhibits innovative solutions and services conceived for the Universal Exposition.
Meanwhile, the City of Milan is launching a research project on the "ongoing transformations in the work world" during Expo 2015 through a crowdfunding platform to collect necessary resources to finance four fellowships. The project, co-sponsored by the Fondazione Giangiacomo Feltrinelli, will be carried out through several meetings with academics and institutional representatives.
The results of the research will be presented at the end of 2015, said Milanese Labour Councilor Cristina Tajani.
"It will allow the administration to assess how the labour market is going during Expo and to adopt innovative policies at a local level," Tajani said.
Unemployment in Milan has been growing constantly since 2008, although it is still lower than the national average.
Joblessness in Milan was 7.7% in 2013, according to the Italian statistical agency ISTAT, while the national average was 13%.
Youth unemployment in Italy's northern economic engine was 33%, while the national average was 43%.
Professors of the Rome's Università Luiss and three universities in Milan - Bocconi, Bicocca and Cattolica - are involved in the project, which will explore four themes: human capital, society, businesses and compensation. The goal is to collect funds from private parties for a total of 40,000 euros to finance four research fellowships.
