Italian President Giorgio
Napolitano on Wednesday called for further dialogue with Russia
on the situation in the Ukraine.
Napolitano said he felt "great appreciation" for the steps
taken earlier in the day by Vladimir Putin of Russia and
President Petro Poroshenko of Ukraine.
"We are hoping that this dialogue will open the road to the
revival of the cooperation between the European Union and Russia
now in severe crisis," the president said in a statement.
Poroshenko and Putin reportedly reached an agreement on the
steps necessary to reach a ceasefire between Ukraine authorities
and pro-Russian rebels in the country.
