(ANSA) Catanzaro, August 26 - A boss from the 'Ndrangheta,
the vicious Calabrian version of the Mafia, warned a local
reporter to be "more tender" when writing about the mobster,
police said Tuesday.
"Tell the journalist that when he speaks about my business
he needs to be more tender," the organised crime kingpin Mario
Mongiardo was quoted as telling his daughter when she visited
her father in prison.
"He mustn't just speak against me but also about things in
my favour," Mongiardo was quoted as saying.
The journalist was named as Francesco Ranieri of the
Gazzetta del Sud newspaper and police said he had evidently
received the veiled threat that was duly delivered by
Mongiardo's daughter, a minor.
Mongiardo was charged with aggravated private violence of
a mafia kind following an investigation by the flying squad of
Catanzaro.
