One person, and not two as
rescuers initially thought, died Tuesday after an explosion in
an apartment in the village of Rivarolo Canavese near Turin.
The elderly owner of the apartment died of burns sustained
in the fire that followed the explosion.
An elderly female neighbor who went into cardiac arrest
after the explosion was initially thought dead but was then
resuscitated by rescuers, police said.
She is still in critical condition.
Investigators are trying to ascertain what caused the
deadly explosion and ensuing fire.
