A Tuscan farmer and a Chinese
resident in Italy have been handed fines of 15,000 euros for
exploiting Chinese agricultural labourers working illegally for
pay of less than 3 euros an hour, police said.
Three Chinese who had been working on the farm in the
idyllic Valdichiana area near Siena for the pittance for 11
hours a day were expelled from Italy following an investigation
by Carabinieri paramilitary police.
The farmer sold fruit and vegetables cultivated by the
Chinese workers in markets in Florence and Prato, according to
the Carabinieri.
